Last night I was lucky enough to see one of my favourite bands The Audreys play live in Cronulla.
Categorised as 'alternative folk' their music ranges from sweeping romantic ballads through to dark, sultry pieces that stir the blood.
Hailing from Adelaide, The Audreys released their first album in 2006 "Between Last Night and Us" with another in 2008 "When the Flood Comes" and their most recent album "Sometimes the Stars" has just been released in 2010.
The band attributes the vibe of "Sometimes the Stars" to 'just taking time to live life, to reflect on the past and then embrace the future with new found perspective.' (http://www.theaudreys.com.au/about-us/)
I pre-ordered "Sometimes the Stars" and have found myself loving the majority of its 10 tracks, my favourite being 'I'll Take What's Mine'. One of the things I admire most about The Audreys is their honest and down to earth lyrics that resonate with so many people and situations in life. I often find myself putting on a particular track of theirs that has emotional meaning to me.
Lead singer Taasha Coates has a stunning voice that can alternately croon out a love song and then fill with hurt and pain for a song like 'Poor House'. Both Coates and her band partner Tristan Goodall are multi talented, playing a range of instruments including the banjo and the melodica, giving their songs an added depth and also surprising and delighting people at live gigs.

I highly recommend any of The Audreys albums, their quality and passion for music is clear in every track written and produced. Great for background music at a dinner party or a romantic first date. Best for a rainy day indoors on the couch!
Sutherland Libraries currently have two copies of "Sometimes the Stars" on order for borrowing.
