Family Affair/Debbie Macomber

This is the first Debbie Macomber book I've read. I chose this book because of its size, only 99 pages with a pretty designed cover.

The story is about a woman who had a painful divorce, hiding in her apartment licking the wound. Her neighbour, a senior executive of an international company, comes to mend her broken heart. My overall impression is a short, old fashioned and simple plot love story with a happy ending.

The make up of the story, I would say, like a kitchen hand puts all the simple ingredients together for a simple dish. There is not much character development and leaves gaps for reader to fill up, such as :

Lacey's emotion has been over described but little mentioned about Jack's, if any?

Does Lacey have a family? She seems to only have two friends, one of them is her Abyssinian cat.

Why Lacey is so loyal to her job?

Why Lacey's boss is always busy?

Why is Jack single ?
