This is a good light read which happens to be topical at the moment. I've heard quite a few discussions on the radio for and against contemporary art. Queensland Art Gallery 21st Century exhibition is on now, and apparently has take away food as one exhibit. This ties in nicely with the book when Alice starts her new job at a gallery in the famous Gold Street. Alice has strict instructions not to leave the gallery while the boss is out so when take away Chinese is delivered she assumes it is lunch and eats it. Only later does the artist explain the idea of food being allowed to "go to nothing" is his most recent "work".
The Turner prize had controversy this year when one artist was accused of making music, not art.
As a bit of an old cynic it all ends too neatly and happily for my taste, but good fun anyway.
