Future Minds : how the digital age is changing our minds

We have all heard the complaints about people who seem to be permanently attached to a digital device or who spend much of their leisure time in front of a PC.

Future Minds by Richard Watson looks at how the digital age is shaping our future and changing the way that we think. The main questions that this books raises is about our society's apparent addiction to data and asks if we should be concerned about balancing our use of technology with some quiet time? Does the culture of rapid response leave no time for reflection or focus? Will the next generations have plenty of instant answers but no deep questions or relationships? Will the development of the left brain be at the expense of the right brain which sees a bigger picture?

The books does not suggest that we should shun technology but poses some very thought provoking questions about a whole range of biological, personal, societal and cultural changes related to the digital age. The author also suggests some practical solutions to reclaiming the ability to switch off and think.
