Jodi Picoult's newest novel Sing You Home was one I have been waiting to read since I heard of it being released. I'm a big fan of Picoult's work, I find her characters so lifelike, full of quirks and small personality flaws that make them all the more human. Picoult always includes a twist at the end and I was both dreading and yearning to find out what is was for this book.
Sing You Home is a story about love, of all kinds. Mother to daughter, husband to wife, partner to partner, man to God. This novel shows that love can be used against you and turned into something terrible, or it can give you hope and keep you going when everything seems to be falling apart.
Sing You Home touches in just about every 'issue' currently out there. Gay rights, infertility, sexual assualt, religion, you name it and it's probably in there. I found that Picoult seemed to be trying to cram so much into this book that it was all washed over, nothing really stood out as the real message or the main link (besides love) that held all the characters and the plot together.
The story begins with husband and wife Zoe and Max Baxter who have been trying to concieve for a number of years. Their last attempt is horribly shattered and as a result their marriage is ripped apart.
Zoe begin a relationship with a woman and Max turns to God for salvation. These life choices lead them on a path that could end in the destruction, or creation of new life for Max, Zoe and the ones they love.
I really enjoyed this novel, it's not my favorite work of Picoult's but still an addictive read.
This title is available at all shire libraries as well as on the Fastback display at Sutherland Library.
